Sharon Carter’s reveal as the MCU’s Power Broker could open the door for the return of one villain from Netflix’s Jessica Jones. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier brought Sharon Carter back to the MCU after she had been missing since Captain America: Civil War, revealing her to have been living and working in Madripoor as the Power Broker over the duration of the Blip. The ending of the Phase 4 series teased a dark future for Carter in the MCU, as she now has access to high-level secrets, prototype weapons, and advanced technology ready to sell to the highest bidder.
During Phase 4, characters from Marvel Television’s Netflix shows started to integrate into the MCU, starting with Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil, and Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin, in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye, respectively. While Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio reprised their roles from the New York City-set Defenders Saga, no other actors from the Netflix shows besides Berthal’s Punisher have been confirmed to be returning. However, street-level heroes are becoming far more prominent in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, which could hint at heroes such as Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist eventually being introduced, and they could potentially bring their villains with them.
Sharon Carter’s Power Broker Will Be Important In The MCU’s Future
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier set up several important storylines for the MCU’s future, including Sam Wilson becoming the MCU’s new Captain America, John Walker falling under the employ of Valentina as US Agent, and Sharon Carter’s debut as the shady Power Broker. These storylines will come to a head in Captain America: New World Order and Thunderbolts, which could see the return of Emily VanCamp as Carter, now working in the shadows while still building her empire. One of the key plot points in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was the development of a new super-soldier serum, which will surely have a huge impact on the MCU.
During The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it was revealed that Carter had hired a former HYDRA scientist, Dr. Wilfred Nagel, to develop a streamlined version of the super-soldier serum that would grant its users superhuman strength while undergoing no physical changes. This serum was taken by Karli Morgenthau and the Flag Smashers and also by John Walker during his time as Captain America. While Nagel was killed and all vials of the super-soldier serum were seemingly destroyed, it’s likely that Carter would still harbor an interest in developing the successful serum again.
The Power Broker Could Have A Connection To Jessica Jones’ Will Simpson
Should Sharon Carter be able to synthesize a new version of the super-soldier serum, it’s possible that this could be used for military purposes in the MCU, which opens the door for the reintroduction of one villain from Netflix’s Jessica Jones. Wil Traval debuted as Will Simpson during Jessica Jones season 1, a United States Army veteran and officer with the NYPD who forms a connection with Trish Walker after an encounter with David Tennant’s Kilgrave. Simpson’s obsession with tracking down and killing Kilgrave eventually leads him back into the arms of IGH, who he had previously been a patient for, where the Combat Enhancer pills are introduced.
The Combat Enhancers were designed to control the body’s adrenaline to make their users stronger, more effective, and less susceptible to pain. Red pills heighten the body’s adrenaline, white pills keep the adrenaline levels balanced, and blue pills allow the user to relax safely. While Simpson abused these pills in Jessica Jones and in Marvel Comics where he became the supervillain Nuke, Combat Enhancers of this nature would surely be invaluable to the MCU’s military forces. Perhaps the MCU’s Power Broker could create these pills and potentially even be the mastermind behind the villainous IGH, creating the opportunity for Simpson’s return to the MCU.
Super Soldier Pills Are The Logical Next Step In The MCU
Throughout the MCU, there have been many attempts at recreating the original super-soldier serum that granted Steve Rogers his abilities as Captain America, though many of these attempts have failed miserably. Attempts at the super-soldier serum transformed Johann Schmidt into the Red Skull, Bruce Banner into the Hulk, and Emil Blonsky into the Abomination (when mixed with Banner’s blood), though the likes of Rogers, Bucky Barnes, Alexei Shostakov, the Flag Smashers, and John Walker all successfully took the serum. After Nagel developed a streamlined version of the MCU’s super-soldier serum in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sharon Carter will likely continue experimenting with the serum.
This could lead to the development of the Combat Enhancer pills, adapted from the super-soldier serum that proved so successful with the Flag Smashers. The development of a pill version of the serum would allow mass production and distribution, which would pose a significant challenge for Sam Wilson’s Captain America and would be a true show of strength from the Power Broker’s new position as a free American citizen. While more characters from Netflix’s Defenders Saga are rumored to be coming to the MCU, Will Simpson from Jessica Jones could make his MCU debut thanks to the actions of the Power Broker.
