Hunters star Logan Lerman shares his honest thoughts on fans casting him as Poseidon in the upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians Disney+ show.
Logan Lerman shares his thoughts on the fan-fueled idea of him playing Poseidon in the upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians reboot series on Disney+. Lerman appeared as the titular character in two Percy Jackson movies released in the 2010s. Since his departure from the franchise, he has appeared in several critically-acclaimed films, including 2014’s Fury and 2022’s Bullet Train. He now stars as Jonah Heidelbaum in the Prime Video drama series Hunters opposite Al Pacino.
In an interview with Esquire, Lerman responds to calls for him to return to the Percy Jackson franchise on Disney+ in the role of Poseidon. Ever since the series was first announced, fans have been enamored with the idea of Lerman graduating from the role of Percy to that of his godly parent. However, Lerman isn’t too interested in the idea. Check out what he has to say below:
“Oh, no. No one’s hit me up about it, and I don’t think I’m right for that anyways. But I also just don’t even know if it’s interesting to me, in terms of: I don’t even know what that would be. But there’s not a secret that’s waiting to be announced or something like that. I do get asked a lot about it, and I hate to disappoint and be like, no, I don’t know anything, and I’m not involved, but that’s the truth. I don’t know anything about it.”
Other Roles Logan Lerman Could Play In The New Percy Jackson Show
There isn’t a shortage of roles that Lerman could, theoretically, take on in Disney+’s Percy Jackson series. The previous films weren’t necessarily beloved in terms of being a proper adaptation of the novels, but the Disney+ series has seemingly made a good first impression on the book-reading segment of the audience. Bringing Lerman back could be a negative for viewers who weren’t fans of the Percy Jackson films, but now that so much time has passed, it seems more people are supportive of the actor himself, if not the movies. He won’t play Percy, but there are several gods that he could bring to life.
Apollo is an obvious choice. It’s fairly easy to envision Lerman bringing the god of the sun and prophecy to life, particularly since the Percy Jackson series often depicts him as a younger man. Lerman joining the Disney+ show as Apollo could be a nice homage to the film adaptation, and bringing him back would also be a fun way of highlighting how far the property has come over the last 15 years. Beyond Apollo, it would be difficult to see the actor as other Greek gods like Zeus, given their massive and imposing statures. While bringing Lerman back in a recurring role seems unlikely, perhaps a smaller cameo for the actor who first brought Percy Jackson to the screen would be a satisfactory way of appeasing fans who want to see his return.
How Disney+ Percy Jackson Show Can Pay Tribute To The Original Movies
The original Percy Jackson films varied from the books in a plethora of ways, but for many fans of the property who haven’t read the books, the movies are their source material. With Percy Jackson now coming to Disney+, the show has opportunities to honor both of the iconic story’s mediums. As already mentioned, casting Lerman would be a start, and the same could be said for casting anyone else who appeared in the Percy Jackson movies, such as Alexandra Daddario and Brandon T. Jackson. The Disney+ series could also sneak in sly references to moments from the movies that did not happen in the books, though author Rick Riordan’s displeasure with the films could prevent that from happening. The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is expected to hit Disney+ in 2024.
