A bulk attacker that acts as a tank during Tera Raids, the Legendary Ting-Lu brings players immense power in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet’s tough battles.
The Dark-/Ground-type Ruinous Legendary of the Paldea Region, Ting-Lu in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, becomes an excellent choice when using their best build for the more difficult Tera Raid battles players encounter during the postgame. Six and seven-star Tera Raids are the most challenging encounters players may encounter, either with a group of friends online or on their own through the Tera Raid Crystals found on the map. Ting-Lu fulfills the role of a bulky attacker when players prioritize their strengths, forming a balanced team member with multiple specialties.
Players that wish to bring out Ting-Lu’s potential need to adjust their move list while considering how the Legendary’s Ability meshes with a proper Nature or held item. Ting-Lu has several type weaknesses that should be considered as well, including particular vulnerabilities to the Water, Grass, Ice, and Fairy-types in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. The high Special Attack power of many moves categorized from these types targets Ting-Lu’s lackluster Special Defense. Although Fighting and Bug-type attacks also do super-effective damage to Ting-Lu, the large Defense and HP stats that label it as a tank mitigate the risks that come from the typical Attack based Power associated with those moves.
The Best Nature, Moves, and Items for Ting-Lu in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
The Attack stat of Ting-Lu increases if the Pokémon sports an Adamant Nature, which players can achieve by either using an Adamant Mint from a Delibird Shop or using their save state to repeat catching the Legendary until they find one with the desired trait. Despite the decrease to Special Defense, this Nature allows players to build Ting-Lu in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet with even more offense, using the Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) in conjunction with the Grass-/Dark-type moves available to deal absurd damage values.
Earthquake and Heavy Slam create the crux of Ting-Lu’s move list, as the former is boosted by STAB and perhaps has the most utility out of any offensive Ground-type moves due to its high damage and 100% Accuracy. In addition, the former attack deals additional damage depending on the Pokémon’s weight, meshing incredibly well with Ting-Lu. Finally, Throat Chop and Stone Edge round out Ting-Lu’s ideal build, with Stone Edge’s Rock-type coverage helping deal with Tera Raid Pokémon of the Flying-type, who usually are immune to Earthquake.
Ting-Lu has an Ability called Vessel of Ruin, which lowers the Special Attack of all Pokémon on the battlefield by 25%, including during Tera Raids in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. This effect automatically increases the defenses of Ting-Lu, as it helps mitigate the risks that come with its low Special Defense. Additionally, an item such as the Leftovers works in Ting-Lu’s favor, recovering adequate amounts of health at the end of each turn to make the Pokémon difficult to knock out. The best build for Ting-Lu in Tera Raids relies on its already impressive features in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, only demanding that players keep in mind what makes the Legendary strong.
